What is the outlook for weather globally? What direction are global forecast indicators pointing? In our recent webinar, Tom Walsh, Refinitiv Head of Weather Research, and Isaac Hankes, Refinitiv Weather Analyst, reviewed the Global weather outlook through 2020 including:
Tom Walsh is the Head of Weather Research within Refinitiv’s Commodities Content & Research team. He leads a team of meteorologists and analysts who forecast weather and climate, which draw impacts on various markets including agriculture, power, and gas. The team’s research and other content are all available in Refinitiv’s Eikon platform within several different applications, including the Agriculture Weather Dashboard and Cross-Asset Weather application. Tom was also a Senior Analyst and Weather Research Manager within the Agriculture Research team (Lanworth), where he forecasted US & Kazakhstan wheat production using weather as a key input to those outlooks. Tom received a B.S. In Meteorology and M.S. In Geography (emphasis in Climatology) from Northern Illinois University in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
Isaac is a Weather Research Analyst within the Agriculture and Weather Research team at Refinitiv. Prior to joining the team in 2016, he completed a B.S. in Meteorology from St. Cloud State in 2007 before graduating from the University of Illinois with a M.S. (2009) and Ph.D. (2014) in Atmospheric Science. At Refinitiv, Isaac leads the forecasting efforts of the Weather Research team, focusing on applied short (days), medium (weeks), and long range (months) forecasting in the Agriculture Weather Dashboard and Cross-Asset Weather Application in Eikon. He also conducts research for use in seasonal prediction, and collaborates with other teams on various weather applications. The Weather team produces in excess of 50 weather commentary reports per week, while also having a significant role in developing the weather data, charts, tables, and maps shown all throughout Eikon.
