Carl Larry

Performance Director, Market Development

Carl Larry is a part of the Refinitiv – Market Development Commodities Team. He has been involved in energy trading for the past fifteen years covering all aspects of trading, research and marketing. Carl started his career trading Eurodollars on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange; moving to New York, he was the Director of Futures Research and Sales for ABN AMRO and Barclays Capital.

Carl has provided commodity research and market insight to some of world's largest hedge funds and commodity trading houses, financial institutions and physical oil and gas producers. He is a frequent speaker on CNBC, Bloomberg TV, BNN Canada, China Central TV and various worldwide publications such as The Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek.
Catherine Wood

Sr Specialist, Price Assesment 
S&P Global Platts

Catherine covers the dirty tanker markets out of the Platts Houston office, assessing freight costs daily for all major crude and fuel oil tanker routes loading in the Americas. Her coverage includes writing daily market commentary, news, and analysis. She joined the Houston shipping team full time in August 2018 after completing a seven-month Commodity Associate Program at Platts when she covered various biofuels, grains, and petrochemical markets.

Catherine graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station with a degree in Finance, with a focus on international business. While completing her bachelor’s degree at A&M, she studied finance at EM Strasbourg Business School at the University of Strasbourg in France and spent a summer at Platts as an intern with the Agriculture and Shipping teams.



Jim Mitchell 

Oil Research Manager

With 25 years of commodity trading experience in Crude Oil, Refined Products and Shipping, Mr Mitchell brings a unique breadth and depth of knowledge to the oil patch. He started his  trading career managing eight traders and all of the futures and options from three divisions within Cargill. When the opportunity arose to be one of the founding members of the weather derivative industry, Jim had to be there on the cutting edge of technology. 

As this new hedging instrument grew in popularity, the oil market called and Shell Oil was at the forefront.  As both a physical and financial trader at STUSCO (Shell Trading US), Jim learned how to trade across the barrel. Since then, Jim has lead investment teams in the acquisition of land, equipment and ship docks and even had a stint at a Price Reporting Agency.

Jim currently runs the Americas Oil Analytical Group for Refinitiv.
Esa Ramasamy


Sr Manager, Product Management & Development

Esa Ramasamy leads Platts’ global business development efforts in crude oil and refined products markets, after previously being the lead editorial market engager for the Oil sector.

Esa’s current role involves advising national oil companies and governments on the appropriate use of Platts’ benchmarks for import parity pricing purposes and market directions.

Esa was one of the first speakers to talk about the impact US Shale Oil on global crude oil markets and one of the first to discuss the possible lifting of the regulatory restrictions on US crude oil exports and its impact. In his more than 20 years with Platts, Esa has covered every product derived from a barrel of oil, and managed teams in publishing breaking news and key benchmark assessments in Asia and the Americas. Esa begin his Platts career in Singapore and is currently based in Houston, Texas.
