Aron Cramer, President and CEO – Business for Social Responsibility (BSR)

Aron is recognized globally as a preeminent authority on sustainable business. In addition to leading BSR, which has grown substantially throughout his tenure as President and CEO, Aron advises senior executives at BSR’s more than 250 member companies and other global businesses on the full spectrum of social and environmental issues.

Aron joined BSR in 1995 as the founding director of its Business and Human Rights Program, and later opened BSR's Paris office in 2002, where he worked until becoming President and CEO in 2004. Aron serves on advisory boards to CEOs at Barrick Gold, Marks & Spencer, and SAP, and previously for AXA, Shell, and Nike. He is also a director of the Natural Capital Coalition, the International Integrated Reporting Council, and We Mean Business, and serves as a member of the Steering Council for the World Economic Forum’s Board of Stewards of its Future of Consumption System Initiative.

Aron speaks frequently at leading business forums and is widely quoted in top-tier media such as the Financial Times, Le Figaro (France), The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. He is co-author of the book Sustainable Excellence: The Future of Business in a Fast-Changing World, which spotlights innovative sustainability strategies that enable business success.

Prior to joining BSR, Aron practiced law in San Francisco and worked as a journalist at ABC News in New York. He holds a B.A. from Tufts University and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jan-Willem Scheijgrond, Global Head of Government and Public Affairs – Philips

Started career with the United Nations Environment Programme, developing best practices guides related to cleaner production for emerging markets, including a large number of African nations. Subsequently held a number of sustainability and government related functions at the BLC Leather Confederation, Epson, and Hewlett-Packard. 2009, joined Philips as part of the Corporate Sustainability Office with responsibility for risk and reputation management; currently, Head, Government Affairs B2G, Royal Philips, heading up a global network that maintains relations with governments and other stakeholders.

Alison Loat, Managing Director – Focusing Capital on the Long Term (FCLT Global)

Alison Loat is an executive, management consultant and entrepreneur with experience in senior leadership positions in the private, non-profit and university sectors. She is the co-founder and was the first executive director of Samara Canada, a non-partisan charity that works to build better politics and improve democratic participation. At Samara, Alison led all strategy, business planning, resource development, team building and operations. She is also the co-author of the #1 best-selling book Tragedy in the Commons: Former Members of Parliament Speak Out About Canada's Failing Democracy (Random House, 2014).

Alison’s career began at McKinsey & Company, where she led teams that developed strategies for businesses and governments in Europe and North America, with a focus on healthcare and financial services. She later served as the acting chief marketing officer at APS, a venture-backed healthcare technology company where she helped build an analytics-based marketing and lead generation function. 

Alison is a member of the Premier of Ontario’s Highly Skilled Workforce Expert Panel and is on the board of the Banff Forum. She was also a fellow and instructor at the University of Toronto from 2007-2014 and served as the past president of the Canadian Club of Toronto, a director of the Toronto Community Foundation and a member of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Alumni Board.

Alison received several awards for her public service leadership, including the Queen’s Gold and Diamond Jubilee Medals. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, where she co-leads a disability rights initiative, and was named one of the WXN 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada. She has degrees from Queen’s University (BAH) and the Harvard Kennedy School (MPP).

Lise Kingo, CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact

Kingo is the CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, which is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative with more than 13,500 signatories from 170 countries that have committed to aligning strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and taking actions that advance societal goals.

Prior to joining the UN Global Compact in 2015, Ms. Kingo was Chief of Staff, Executive Vice President and member of the Executive Management team at Novo Nordisk A/S since 2002. She was in charge of several business areas and pioneered the first Novo Nordisk strategy on sustainability, spearheading the integration of sustainability into the heart of the business, showcasing the mutual benefits for both the company and society.

Before 2002, Ms. Kingo held various positions at  NovoZymes  A/S and Novo A/S, including Director of Environmental Affairs and Senior Vice President of Business Support. She was responsible for a number of areas covering growth and operations such as Environmental Affairs, People Management, Communications and Branding. Furthermore Ms. Kingo was the founder and primary force behind the first sustainability strategy at  NovoZymes .

Until Ms. Kingo started her work with UN Global Compact, she was chair of the board at Steno Diabetes Center and has throughout her career, held a number of board positions in foundations as well as in companies, such as Grieg Star Shipping in Norway and GN Great Nordic. She was also a Professor at the Medical Faculty, Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, and the Chair of the Danish Council for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Ms Kingo has received several awards such as the Edinburgh Medal and the Copenhagen Business School 2018 Honorary Alumni Award. She is also a UN Gender Champion.

Ms. Kingo holds a Master of Science degree in Responsibility and Business Practice from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, a Bachelors of Arts in The Science of Religions and Ancient Greek Culture from the Universities of Aarhus and Odense, Denmark as well as a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Economics from the Copenhagen Business School. She is also certified by INSEAD’s International Directors Program in Corporate Governance

 

Simon Zadek, Principal of Project Catalyst, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Simon Zadek is the Principal of Project Catalyst at the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) and is a visiting professor and senior fellow at the Singapore Management University. From 2014-2018, Dr. Zadek was a co-director of the UN Environment Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Financial System. He has held senior fellowships or visiting scholar posts at the International Institute of Sustainable Development, Academy of Business in Society, Tsinghua School of Economics and Management in Beijing, and John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Dr. Zadek is an advisory board member of the leading sustainability investment fund, Generation Investment Management. He founded and was until 2009 chief executive of the international think tank, AccountAbility, and before that served as development director of the New Economics Foundation, founding chair of the Ethical Trading Initiative, and steering committee member of the Global Reporting Initiative. Dr. Zadek publishes extensively: his book, The Civil Corporation was awarded the Academy of Management’s prestigious “Best Book on Social Issues in Management,” and his Harvard Business Review article, “Paths to Corporate Responsibility” is widely used as a reference to understand emergent sustainability
strategies. He advises companies worldwide on sustainability issues, and until recently lived in China.
