Simon Wilson Head of Oil Markets, Refinitiv

Simon Wilson is the Head of Oil Markets at Refinitiv overseeing the strategy, development and growth of oil markets business at the company. Before taking on the Oil markets business, Simon has previously also been responsible for the commodities and energy business in Asia for Thomson Reuters and worked as a consultant in the industry.

Simon holds a MBA from London Business School and a BSc in Chemistry from Imperial College London.

Raj Melvani Director – Corporates & Commodities, Market Development, Asia, Refinitiv

Raj Melvani is the Director of Corporates & Commodities, Market Development for Asia. Currently based in Singapore, Raj previously held various business development roles at Refinitiv (formerly known as Thomson Reuters Financial & Risk Business) in Hong Kong & Australia covering financial markets solutions & services to a wide number of global & regional banks, global Inter-Dealer Brokers (IDBs) & large corporates. His most recent role was Asia Business Development for FX workflow solutions. Prior to working at Thomson Reuters, Raj worked within the FICC business at a leading Australian investment bank. Raj holds an Engineering (Honours) & Science degree from a leading Australian university.

John Mathai Market Development Manager, Corporates & Supply Chain - Oil/Energy markets, Asia, Refinitiv


John Mathai leads Refinitiv’s engagements on enterprise and big data initiatives with key energy companies in Asia Pacific.

Before that, he held multiple roles in Bloomberg, from helping start its India operations to managing sales in the sub-continent and then as a Market specialist for the energy and commodities sector in Asia Pacific. Until 2017, he was an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence focused on transport and logistics industry in the region, following which, he went on to set-up a fintech start-up.

John has a Masters in economics and started his career as an analyst covering industry and foreign trade at the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy.

Prof. Tom James CEO/CIO, NR Capital and Senior Quality Assurance (QA) Partner, Navitas Resources

Tom is CIO & CEO of NR CAPITAL TRADE FLOW FUND SP an innovative digitised trade finance solution for bulk physical commodity transactions being shipped or stored around the world. He is also advisor to several block chain startups developing Smart Contracts and Trading infrastructure.

He is widely recognised as a leading practitioner in the global Natural Resources market with over 29 years of commercial exposure gained through broad ranging senior roles in Financial Institutions and Trading firms. Roles which have enabled him to gain a holistic industry perspective, covering a full range of functions including supply chain /operations, derivatives, physical markets, funds management and banking & finance and across many countries in Africa, Europe, Middle East, and the Asia Pacific.

As well as having served as a Senior Energy advisor to the United States Department of Defence, Tom is a prolific published writer, documenting his expertise through a series of books and publications with Wiley and Palgrave Macmillan. Alongside his commercial roles he has been able to share his experiential learning with industry peers & students through various advisory & academic appointments.

Over the years as a serial Commodity Fin Tech entrepreneur, Tom has combined technology with best practice in order to create innovative industry services & solutions.

Giang Nguyen, Senior Data Scientist, MarketPsychData


Giang Nguyen is a Quantitative Analyst at MarketPsych Data where she models the impact of information flow and media sentiment on asset prices. She has developed innovative equity investment strategies around investor anger and is on a pioneering team developing a "superforecasters" data feed.  Previously she performed quantitative analysis at Nuvest Capital, Grasshopper, Hedga and Mapletree Investments. Ms. Nguyen has a degree in quantitative finance from SMU.
