YAW YAN CHONG is the Director of Refinitiv (formerly Thomson Reuters Oil Research & Forecasts in Asia, part of its Commodities Research division. He is also the inspiration behind the Asia Oil Flows Assessment Module, that provides fundamental assessments of cargo flows across the oil barrel to an d from demand and supply regions , after having learnt the fundamentals of Supply & Demand in the more than 10 years that he has been in the oil industry, starting out as a Price Editor in Platts, being an Energy Correspondent with Reuters and also having spent some time as a Trading Analyst in Merrill Lynch.
Capt. Ranjith heads the Refinitiv Oil & Shipping Research for the Middle East and North African market, with a primary focus on Oil flows and shipping data. He and his team formulate research and market insights by generating trade flow analytics which enables real time trading information and operational intelligence. The team specializes in vessel tracking and generates big data for the mid-stream and down-stream oil markets including the marine sector by utilizing algorithmic and predictive modelling. Prior to Refinitiv, he was sailing as a Master Mariner and has sailed with leading ship-owners on their tanker fleet. Post sailing, he was managing the commercial operations for a ship-owner in West Africa and heading the technical management for the fleet. Capt. Ranjith holds a Bachelors in Nautical Technology followed by an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada.
Shaima Hasan is a Senior Proposition Manager at Refinitiv Islamic finance division with more than 10 years of professional experience. Shaima is leading the delivery of Islamic finance bespoke solutions including workflow and trading solutions, knowledge and research, consulting services and market engagement to government entities, multilateral organizations and leading financial institutions. Shaima was a lead author of several Islamic finance and economy reports and has worked in developing market indices including Islamic Finance Development Indicator (IFDI) and The Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI). As a key figure in the Islamic Finance and Islamic Economy Industry, Shaima has also presented in global events and conference, in addition to providing many training and workshop sessions regionally and globally. Previously, she worked within fixed income portfolio management of both conventional bonds and Sukuk for one of the largest banks in Bahrain managing over $500 million worth of fixed income instruments for more than 2 years. Shaima is a PMP certified and holds an MBA degree from DePaul University and a bachelors degree of Business Administration from American University of Sharjah.
