Geoffrey Smith is the Director of Oil & Shipping Research at Refinitiv. He currently leads research teams that specialize in the oil-trading market producing near-term, in-depth analyses of supply-demand fundamentals.

Geoffrey was previously the Head of Cross Asset Research at what is now formerly the Financial and Risk business of Thomson Reuters, where he led research teams that were focused on core capabilities used directly by our customers and by our oil, metals and agriculture teams. Prior to this, Geoffrey built the shipping and mapping capability within Eikon, our flagship terminal product. He then went on to form the shipping research team and our cargo tracking product.

Since joining Thomson Reuters in 2003, Geoffrey has held posts in operations, project management, product management and now research. He has extensive experience building complex products across global teams.

He holds a Master’s degree in Physics from Oxford University.

Alex Putkov is a Developer Advocate at Refinitiv on a mission of promoting the use of Refinitiv APIs among customers and partners. His career with Refinitiv spans over 25 years. Before becoming a Developer Advocate Alex managed a team of solutions consultants helping customers implement Refinitiv solutions and integrate them into customers’ workflows. Alex’ expertise includes software development, business analysis, product management and customer service.

Jakob has assembled leadership teams and personally concluded 200+ confidential strategic searches for a range of firms in commodities over the last 2 decades. He remains a close advisor to a select group of leaders and is an active contributor, writer, video blogger and panellist to the industry on the subject of talent and people.

Candice has been with Refinitiv for over 10 years in various roles in Sydney, Philippines, New York and London. She is the EMEA RDMS Solution Consultant working with the Refinitiv C&E sales team to help scope and define client data and technical requirements including RDMS and Eikon APIs. With a background in Eikon desktops, she understands the increasing needs and demands of big data and is keen to help the users’ data digitization journey across the supply chain.

Alessandro Sanos is heading the global Sales Strategy and Execution function of the Commodities, Energy, and Shipping business of Refinitiv on the holistic offering of market insights, analytics, data management, and technology. Most recently, Alessandro was leading Thomson Reuters’ Commodities business, and prior, the Risk business in Europe. Before joining Reuters, he worked for PwC in Greece covering the shipping and energy market, and for JPMorgan Chase in the United Kingdom. Alessandro is a regular speaker on technology and market trends at leading industry events. A published author on international financial publications and a guest lecturer on innovation and digital transformation, Alessandro is a member of the Executive Committee of GARP for Switzerland and the Chapter Head of Geneva for the CAIA Association.
